This range is optically invisible to the human eye. This is what gives you a sunburn after a long day at the beach.

HAZARDS OF UV Light

– UV light is very dangerous if you are overexposed to it. Here are some of the bad things UV light does to people:

– Damages immune system- Sunburn can change the distribution and function of disease-fighting white blood cells in humans for up to 24 hours after exposure to UV rays.
– Damages the eye- Overexposure of the eyes to UV causes a condition called ‘snow blindness’ or photokeratitis.

Coil sterilization and Air Sterilization

HVAC UV lights serve two different purposes. These are “Coil sterilization”, and “Air Sterilization”.

Coil Sterilization

– Coil sterilization is when the HVAC UV light is used to prevent and destroy microbial growth from growing onto the coil.

– A stick-type UV light bulb is placed inside near the return air duct. This sterilizes the air handler coil and provides 24/7 sterilization. This is the most common type of HVAC UV light used and is reasonably priced.

Coil Sterilization

– Air sterilization uses a complete UV light unit that sterilizes moving air. Air sterilization is done by treating the contaminants in the airstream, which may be moving at a pace of hundreds or thousands of feet per minute.

– The UV light unit is installed in the return air duct and runs cycles with the air handler blower.
